In July 2004 I took a mountaineering holiday out to Iceland for three weeks. It involved hiking and learning about the geography of the island and little did I know how vast and barren Iceland was.
Over the weeks I sketched and took photos of the landscape and after returning I began doing larger paintings and image compositions in my studio. I was most interested in portraying the landscapes as ‘real’ as I had experienced it.
I also wanted to make people aware of the distant there was from a mountain to a glacier so I used broad brush strokes to simulate this distant.
